Job Title: Sales Manager – Metal Decking Distributor

Location: Aurora, IL

Reports To: President

Travel: 10-15% (multi-state coverage)

We are the industry’s leading metal deck distributor with 16 locations across 11 states providing metal roof deck, form deck, composite floor deck, accessories and project management to the construction and design industries nationwide. Our growing company is seeking a results-driven Sales Manager to lead and develop our experienced team of sales professionals, expand our market presence, and champion our mission-driven culture.

Position Summary:

· Sell metal deck, drive growth and meet sales metrics.

· Lead and train the sales team.

· Establish account lists, projections and develop territories.

· Build and manage customer and vendor relationships.

· Manage logistics.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning & Leadership

  • As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, establish sales strategy, performance metrics and work directly with sales team to set and accomplish goals.
  • Lead, mentor and conduct ongoing training for a team of 8 sales professionals.
  • Maintain and update continuity and SOPs for Sales department.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to recruit, onboard and train new sales staff when needed.

Territory Management

  • Work with the sales team to annually refine customer lists and territories.
  • Monitor sales goals and analyze weekly, monthly and annual stats.
  • Get involved in industry associations, events and trade shows.
  • Prospect for new business and consistently update key account purchasing agents.
  • Understand and strategize against competition in all regions.
  • Lead weekly sales meetings.

Customer Relations

  • Maintain and develop strong relationships with key accounts and metal deck suppliers.
  • Engage directly with Sales Team in sales negotiations and resolve escalated customer issues.
  • Consistently researching, qualifying and developing prospect lists.

Collaboration with all departments

  • Partner with Operations to ensure product availability and delivery efficiency.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of marketing plans and campaigns.
  • Work closely with accounting to ensure proper billings and margin targets are met.

Qualifications:

  • Positive attitude, coachable, willing to learn.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Construction Management, Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Sales training and proven sales record.
  • 5–10 years of sales leadership experience in building materials, steel products, distribution or similar.
  • Experienced in blueprint reading and project management preferred.
  • Experience with distribution materials supply chain.
  • Proven experience in multi-location and multi-state territory management.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, presentation, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and develop actionable territory and sales plans.
  • Proficient in CRM software (Sage CRM preferably) and Microsoft Office Suite.
